How to Properly Brush Teeth | Farmington Dental & Orthodontics

Brushing your teeth is both an art and a science! Knowing the proper way to brush will not only save time during your daily routine, but also money since you won’t have to spend it on future dental treatments! Get to know the best way to brush your teeth.

Sufficient Duration: 2 Minutes x 2 Times

It’s tempting to just gloss your brush over your teeth really quickly and move on with your routine. But did you know that you should brush your teeth for two minutes at a time, twice a day in order to get the best clean possible? If you have trouble timing yourself, set a timer on your phone or use an electric toothbrush that has an automatic timer.

Gentle, Circular Strokes

Don’t drag your brush back and forth across your teeth. Doing so won’t clean the tops or bottoms of your teeth properly! The best thing to do is to brush in small circles, and make sure to use gentle strokes so that you don’t damage your delicate gums.

Brush in All Those Nooks & Crannies

Patients commonly brush the surface of their teeth and the tops and bottoms of their teeth, but don’t forget to brush the inner surfaces of your teeth, too. After all, you can still develop tartar in those areas even if you can’t see them in the mirror when you smile.

Don’t Forget Your Tongue!

Your tongue harbors a lot of bad breath bacteria that grows continuously throughout the day. Be sure to brush your tongue back to front and side-to-side after you brush your teeth for even fresher breath and a healthier mouth.

A soft-bristled toothbrush is gentle yet effective and a great option for your daily oral healthcare routine. They still had me on file, Toni at the front desk was more than helpful. Full of laughter. The coffee machine was on point. I only write this review now because I had a particularly helpful visit. While there for a routine cleaning, I got to talking with Kristin about the microbiology classes I teach. She made some observations that inspired me to approach the latter half of the semester differently, and it was a super helpful change! I guess all that is to say that the workers are competent...but also pleasant and helpful. :P

I’ve had traumatic dental experiences in the past and am unfortunately one of those people who require a little more juice to get fully numbed. Farmington Dental not only managed to numb me completely but also prescribed an anxiety medication for the visit which helped ease the tension of getting in the chair. This is one of two dental experiences I can remember without experiencing pain and the other experience I was asleep. I’ll definitely be going back.
